Most of our products are a combination of wood veneers and solid wood. We find great delight in the colors and patterns of various wood veneers. They also are a better use of scarce natural materials. We generally create our own veneers in our shop using a large bandsaw and sand them to a thick 1/16", whereas most commercial veneers are about 1/50" thick and are cut using a slicing action which distorts the grain. We also love pieces with curved solid wood edging, which is seldom seen in commercial products because of the extra work required.
The finish we use is a spray-on "post-catalyzed conversion varnish", impermeable to everything but concentrated sulfuric acid.

The top consists of Curly Teak, Western Walnut and Quilted Maple shop made veneers with a solid Wenge rim. Because Teak is very oily, this veneer is glued up using an extremely strong epoxy glue. We supplied 9 of these tables to a nautically-themed coffee shop in Portland Oregon.

This is a very unusual Coffee Table, built to the specifications of a particular client. It is Ultra-modern in the sense that it has no traditional form or structure: it is as though someone dumped a load of random boxes on the floor. It consists of 17 random boxes, randomly covered with six types of veneer, and randomly assembled.
This is a rather complex piece to create and to assemble: each box has 1/16" thick shop made veneer on 5 sides, and matching solid wood edges embedded on all 12 edges. Although it looks randomly assembled, all the boxes are solidly supported, which is a complex task. We prefer to construct it in the same size and configuration, although you are free to choose whatever veneers you like. In order to match the edging with the veneers, we must cut the veneers from solid wood, so that limits the choices of available solid woods.

We built this particular chair for a client who wanted to rock and read to three small grandchildren. Because we didn't know how many people would be sitting it or where, we did not contour the seat. Instead we used pads, as shown, to add needed comfort. This chair, designed from scratch by Corbin Woodworks is generally in the style of the well known California woodworker, Sam Maloof.

Corbin Woodworks has been able to purchase a Legacy Woodworking Machinery Maverick 3x5 Gen 2 CNC. This has a flat cutting area of 3' by 5'. (We have connections with services with larger beds.) It has a turning center that will cut turnings up to 10" in diameter and 50" long. It also has a vertical vise for cutting mortises and tenons and dovetail joints mounted vertically. This is a heavy-duty industrial machine with a 3 hp liquid cooled spindle. We can cut cabinet casework from sheet goods, cut face frames and furniture parts from solid wood, cut turnings from solid wood, and joinery of various kinds. We can cut custom dovetailed drawer boxes of various kinds using a variety of joints. Click Here
